MotoTRBO

Until mid September of 2009, the MotoTRBO line of 2-way radios was available only in a digital/analog model.  Other manufacturers of digital radios, notably ICOM and Relm/BK offered analog radios that could later be upgraded to digital.  This is of significant benefit to user that wish to continue operating in an analog format but with a plan toward converting to digital by upgrading at a later date.  This allows the user to keep purchasing and/or replacement costs at a minimum without losing the ability to upgrade to digital when necessary.  We are delighted to annnounce that an analog version of all models of MotoTRBO radios is now available!

Although we are prohibited from advertsing prices on the Internet, we can tell you that the MotoTRBO technology is price competitive to the ICOM and Kenwood NXDN system (See www.icomfuture.com) and considerably less that the federal standard P25 technology (See www.the-end-of-confusion.com). We can also tell you that the typical selling price of an analog version of a MotoTRBO mobile or portable radio is generally $150 to $175 less than a model with analog and digital capability.  When the time comes to upgrade to digital, the upgrade cost should be in the $200 to $250 range.

Existing MotoTRBO radio users will now be able to mix analog only with analog/digital mobiles with the same basic funcionality afforded to both analog/digital and analog only users.  There is no sacrafice in quality between the analog only and analog/digital models.  Additionally, first time purchasers will be able to objectively evaulate side by side offerings with other manufacturers offering this upgrade capability.

The Motorola MotoTRBO analog/digital system is the absolute top of the line in a VHF or UHF radio! For about the same price as a HT1550.XLS or PR860 handheld, you can have the benefits of advanced digital technology including built in text messaging (even the ability to receive email with the proper software) and GPS position reporting in both the XPR4550 mobile and even the XPR6550 HANDHELD RADIO!

If you've never heard a side by side comparison of a digital radio with an analog, you are in for a big surprise. The reason is that digital is not affected by ambient noise, a major range killer for analog radios. Digital operation does not allow utilization of older 2-tone signaling. Instead, an enhanced MDC-1200 system is used that allows both selective calling as well as text message notification. The water submersible approved XPR6550 handheld uses a digital technology known as TDMA, a proprietary system that is both affordable and efficient. The XPR6550 is our top choice handheld for industrial users with the XPR4550 being our recommended choice for mobile applications since it features built in GPS capability (Optional software and firmware required).

As mentioned earlier, we are prohibited from advertising prices on the Internet for Motorola Professional Series radios which includes the MotoTRBO series XPR4550 mobile, XPR6550 handheld and XPR8300 repeater.  Suffice it to say that MotoTRBO handhelds and mobiles are price comparable with Motorola HT1550 and CDM1550 Professional Series analog radios and a WHOLE lot less than XTS series radios.  As for the repeater - figure it about a fourth the cost of the lowest priced P25 repeater and LESS than half the cost of an MTR2000 repeater. For now, we invite you to review the complete specifications on the XPR6550 and other MOTOTRBO products by going to www.falcondirect.com/mototrbo.
